masterbuilt smoker March 8, 2010 Paul Moyer (ROME, PA, US) I purchased the Master built Smoker on 30Jan10. Absolutely love it! The only problem is that I live in PA. , where the temps are a little colder and the smoker does not want to function under 30 degrees. However , I contacted Master Built and they informed me if I take the digital controller portion of the smoker off and get it to room temp, and then re-install it , it will work ! In which it did. So I am happy with my purchase! MOJ
Great product March 3, 2010 Bob C. (Michigan) This is an outstanding smoker, easy to operate and easy to clean. It maintains a fairly constant temperature, even when the outdoor temp is well below freezing. The wood chamber is easy to load and well designed.
Smoking Easy (with wheels check "Cajun Injector" Brand) February 17, 2010 Daktota Dad (South Dakota) Note: to those concerned with wheels, the same model comes with wheels under the "Cajun Injector" brand smoker comes with rear wheels. I was told by a local sporting goods store that "Cajun Injector" bought out masterbuilt and that they are the same smoker. I was pleased that for the same price $199 at the sporting good store it included the wheels. Since this is the same model I feel that I can review this one as well. Here in SD it is 20-25 Degrees, the machine is able to reach the target temp (250 for ribs). I feel that under the harsh weather conditions that this out performs expectations. If your new to smoking check out the book "Backyard BBQ: The Art of Smokology", which is very informative.
I HOPE THE NEXT ONE IS BETTER! February 15, 2010 C. Decosta (USA) I just bought this for my husband for valentines day. all excited i had ordered it friday and had it overnighted for him to open Saturday and make an awesome valentines day dinner! HOWEVER!! MAKE SURE YOU REALLY CHECK THE PRODUCT OUT!! The screws were missing but my husbanhd didnt really mind he had some himself he could use, then he starts it up and notices the door seal is dmaged along with dents and so on in the inside of the door. Beings hes already started cooking he figures he will deal with it later.. Shortly after cooking he notices all this water leaking from the legs and when he was done there was nothing in the drip pan! Definately completely defective! I called amazon right away and they are over nighting a new one today.. hopefully i just got a total defect and this one is better! Also I noticed amazon offers to bbuy the bradley chips brisquette things with it but my husband said its not that great. A little ruined valentines day presant turned into a nightmare but it could have been worse!
Awesome Little Smoker February 5, 2010 C. Rohn (Nebraska) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this smoker for about 8 months now. I knew I wanted to smoke meats, but couldn't make a vertical water smoker work for me. Well, this little beauty solved that. My pulled pork, ribs and brisket are now family and neighborhood favorites.
What I love about it:
So easy.
I work a lot. I play a lot. And yet I can make great BBQ. Once you set the temp and load it with meat and wood chips, you can go on about your day. Very common for me to throw in a couple pork butts at 220 degrees, go play a round of golf, wash the car, and return to find perfectly-cooked meat. No more babysitting!
The chip loader.
I purchase the small chips of hickory and pecan wood from a local hardware store, and this unit gets a lot of smoke out of little wood. It's so nice not to have to open the unit to add wood chips. Simply use the "side door".
Great smoke.
I get a better smoke ring on my meats in this smoker than my old one. With less wood.
Moisture built in.
I no longer have to baste during cooking. The water pan, situated above the heating element and below the cooking racks, keeps the meat moist but does not interfere with the smoking process. I keep the vent on the top wide open, which also seems to help.
Cook when it's cold!
I live in Nebraska, and it gets brutally cold here. I ran the smoker when it was 13 degrees outside. I set the unit at 235, and it maintained 222. That, to me, was very impressive.
What I don't like about the smoker:
The door seal.
My door seal does not seem to fit or seal perfectly. There is an adjustable latch, and that helps, but the seal does not always remain perfectly tight. Sometimes some water/grease will drip out the bottom of the door. Just a couple ounces. But still...
All in all, I'd give this a 4.5. It's great for beginners and moderate-level users. Probably not for BBQ Champions, but great for everyone else.
