Broil King Monarch 40 grill September 7, 2010 Terry I am very happy with the way the grill performs. It gets very hot rapidly and has very even heat. The side burner also has good heat; you have to be careful not to burn stuff on it because it is so hot.
The main issue I had was the grill was the packaging. It was not packed well enough to withstand UPS and arrived with damaged front and side panels and a scratched top. The box arrived with some damage but the packaging was not adequate to protect the parts. I called the company and they shipped replacement parts without any questions. I didn't like having to wait a week or more to get a new product into use.
The assembly directions are a bit weak with only pictures, but I had no problem with that. I am an engineer and can see how some people might struggle with it.
I would have preferred to have a cast iron or brass burner but didn't notice it was a stainless part. I was assured that it was guaranteed for 5 years so will see.
Not the type of grill you get at the grocery store or walmart. August 24, 2010 Rprather I did a little research before purchasing this grill, and I must say I made an excellent choice! We have been using this grill for about 6 months, and Yes! the ignitor still works. I love the way my steaks come of the grill with the grill marks seared into the meat. This is certainly not the type of grill you get at the grocery store during the summer time meat special, or that you would find at Walmart. The grates are heavy cast iron and will last forever! The last grill I owned, we had to change out the grate at least twice- could have been more, because of the thin metal it was made of- they would rust through. That will not be a problem with this grill. The oven seems to hold the temperature and heats up quickly. Our food cooks evenly and thoroughly. If you don't want to spend in excess of $500 for a great grill, then you must consider this Broil King. Well worth the hundred more I spent over what a Walmart grill would have cost.
Great grill price and quality-wise August 12, 2010 James A. Trent (Bellerose Manor, NY United States) I read many reviews of many brands and models before choosing the Broil King Monarch 40. Putting it together was no great challenge and it fired up instantly upon first pressing the ignition key. The cast iron fire box is a great feature. The wheels are a little difficult to manuever over a brick surface but at least there are four wheels. (My old Jacuzzi brand only had two.) The grills are also heavy cast iron. We grilled food for 16 people as an inauguration of the product and it was a flawless event.
Fantastic Deal on Very Good Gas Grill August 2, 2010 Justarasta (Coral Gables, FL United States) LIke most here a new gas grill was not an impulse purchase so I looked around. This is a very well made grill, made in Canada instead of China (which I think very important for a number of reasons not the least of which is that I am much more comfortable eating food off it) and has a side burner that works great.
Not only is this a very good gril, you cannot beat this deal. Locally the best price I could find was $399.00 and the lowest price Weber model with a side burner (which is real important to those of us living in the hurricane zone) was $579.00 on sale at Home Depot. I aslo looked at the Brinkman grills and one other while I was there. I think this is a better grill than the Weber or any of the other grills at Home Depot anyway so the decision in favor of this grill in the up to $500 price range is truly a no brainer.
Except for one thing: Assembly. I did not look at the assembly guide but the exploded parts diagram was impressive - meaning there were a whole bunch of parts. I managed to get my local source to throw in assembly using the Amazon price as a reference and that did the deal for me. Having said that I had to partially disassemble it to get it in my vehicle (these things are larger than they seem) and I had no problem installing the sides and the grill top and no tools were even required. It was kind of good to know how the pieces when together.
So in conclusion - if you have any mechanical skills - purchase of this grill at this price is a forgone conclusion.
not as good as i thought July 26, 2010 mary Although the grates are good - the sides of the grill are flimsy and i really don't expect more than a couple years of light grilling form it.
