Is it possible to give an item zero stars or maybe negative stars because it is a huge waste of your time? They are betting that after you go through the effort of buying, assembling and trying it, you won't have time or desire to bring back an assembled, used product to get your money back. Bought this product at Lowe's, put it together and almost did not even try using it because it was pretty clear that this thing was not going to work very well. I tried it once and promptly returned it. I previously have owned electric charbroil patio caddies. They were originally fantastic and would get very, very hot - great for searing steaks or fish and also perfect for low, slow smoking a brisket or medium-roasting a whole chicken. Then, charbroil went for the "gold" and started getting the product made in China - downgrading everything - including the most important heating element. That is when the "wheels came off the wagon". I would go into all the problems, but I won't - it was complete, pathetic junk. I thought that this new product might have been an upgrade from the patio caddie - nope - it's a "double down" on cheap Chinese manufacturing. It is a pure con-job. This thing doesn't cook and it is embarrassingly cheap made/looking - you don't want it on your patio!

This is our third Char Broil electric grill, owned the earlier models. Putting it together took about 1 1/2 hours. The cooking grate does not lie solid and level on its suppports, but it also does not tilt off them, so its okay. We fashioned a smoker with aluminum foil to hold wood chips and that adds great flavor. Like the extra cooking space on this one. All in all we liked the previous models more, they seemed better engineered, better quality and the cooking grate was definitely heavier. It is not easy to get between the cooking grate slats for ease of cleanup. The grease cup holder is better on this one.

I just purchased this "electric" grill hoping it was a new generation of "electric" grills that actually came to a "grilling" temperature. Unfortunately, this grill is no better than older models; it just doesn't get hot enough to properly grill food. After 1 hour of pre-heating w/the cover closed the internal temp only reached 375. The company, Char-Broil, told me it is the best you can expect. Bottom line: DO NOT BUY.

As a condo dweller, I've been a fan of the earlier model Patio Caddie for years. Reliability, fast/high heat generation, and never running out of fuel have been huge advantages. I've known about infrared grills for years, but knew they cost up over a grand. 'Saw this new Infrared Bistro model and had to have it! I gave my beloved Caddie to my son (who loves it!) and got this new model.
Putting the grill together was logical and straight forward. It did not go together instantly, but what's the big deal? I took it step-by-step and it came together just fine. When completed, the Bistro looks good; much more substantial and better styled than the ol' Caddie. Plus, the grill size is substantially larger.
'Plugged it in, turned up the power, and WOW! This sucker was up over 550 degress in about ten minutes. As I'd done before, put a small handfull of hickory chips into a foil pouch, poked a few holes in it, and tossed it on the grill and closed the lid. In a few more minutes the awesome aroma of hickory smoke wafted through the patio. Our first test was marinated sirloin skewers. As the meat hit the grill the intense sizzle was terrific. These cooked fast and clean, with that terrific hickory smoke essence.
I've now been using this grill almost daily for a couple of weeks with chicken, beef, pork, veggies, and shrimp and I love it! Guests are amazed.
Great Electric Patio Grill July 5, 2010

I have an older model of their electric patio grill (which still works great after 7 years of use) and just wanted to update to this new grill with a hinged lid and larger cooking surface. But my item arrived damaged and with one part that did not line up. Amazon did not have any in stock at the time of my return, so I made this purchase elsewhere. Return was easy and timely. This is a great electric patio grill, for those of you who do not wish to mess with the propane gas grills. It heats well, cooking surface is quite adequate. Overall I love this grill! Don't forget to order the cover made for this grill -- it will help to protect your investment from the weather.
